Graham, does it make you just as sick to hear about state or federal funds being used to build roads? I have no stake or remote ownership in any part of this. I am a Lake County citizen who would love to see minor league baseball come to our county. If you took the time to read my posts, I always try to share information objectively. If you been listening to the news, real estate isn't exactly a booming market. I welcome your opinion, but don't think my pockets are any deeper than yours. It makes me sick to think of state funds being used to build a stadium for this ownership group. Why don't you get your real estate buddies together and invest in this project? I hear you guys think this is just such a wonderful thing, so why not put your money where your mouth is instead of waiting for the taxpayers to foot the bill?

What exactly do you mean by "this whole thing"? I know that the city is waiting for state funds in order to purchase the land. The owners and the city are both saying they've worked out an shortened construction schedule. But my guess is that they will have to find other location to play this season, or at least most of it. I don't think it's going to happen, Tim. It seems that Ehrenreich keeps adjusting the feasible timeline for the project. When we were working with the Frontier League on a smaller stadium in downtown Waukegan, the team owners told us they would need every bit of ten months to complete a stadium. Here we are approaching three months and the team doesn't have the necessary permits. Like you, I'm still looking forward to minor league baseball in Lake County. I just don't think it will happen in Zion. At least not in 2010.

I contacted Rich Ehrenreich, Managing Partner/President of the Fielders. He informed me that the city has announced a ground breaking ceremony on November 5 for the stadium. The league has them schedule to play on the road for the first 3 weeks of the season. Construction should take about 5 months and they are confident they will be ready to play this summer.

Are you a shill for the Fielders? Hate to tell you this, but the stadium has no financing and the team will be playing on the road in '10. Until they find gubermint money to pay for the park, there will be no baseball in Zion. Sorry.
